Shane van Gisbergen Dominates Watkins Glen for Fourth NASCAR Cup Series Win in 2025

Watkins Glen, NY

Shane van Gisbergen showed once again why he’s quickly become one of NASCAR’s most feared road course racers, delivering a commanding performance at Watkins Glen International. Behind the wheel of the #88 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet Camaro, the Kiwi star dominated the field, crossing the line 11 seconds ahead of his nearest challenger to claim his fourth NASCAR Cup Series win of the 2025 season.

This victory carried extra meaning for SVG, coming back to the track where things slipped away last year. In 2024, the race was decided at the Bus Stop Chicane, where Buescher edged him out in a neck-to-neck final lap.

“Good to get that one back,” van Gisbergen said after the race.

SVG started from the front row and tucked in behind pole-sitter Ryan Blaney as the race got underway. Even when an early caution for Kyle Larson’s spin interrupted the flow, SVG stayed locked in. A late Stage 1 pit call dropped him to fifth, but he didn’t stay there for long.

On Lap 25, SVG made the decisive move, an audacious three-wide pass into the Bus Stop Chicane that saw him rocket back into the lead.

Watkins Glen threw plenty of curveballs. Spinning cars, mid-pack tangles, and stage-break strategy calls kept the field on its toes. The defining moment came with 37 laps to go, when he reeled in Blaney and gained the lead. From there, he held his position, and by the time the final pit stops were done, his advantage stretched from two seconds to around ten.

This win not only marked his fourth triumph of the year but also solidified his position as a championship contender. It was a statement of dominance on one of NASCAR’s most iconic road courses, a redemption story twelve months in the making, and another reminder that Shane van Gisbergen’s transition to the Cup Series has been nothing short of remarkable.
